How to Change the Default Language in Google Chrome

This wikiHow teaches you how to change the default language used in the Google Chrome web browser. Keep in mind that webpages will still display in the languages in which they were written, though Google Chrome will offer to translate them into your default language. You cannot change the default language in the iPhone or Android Chrome app since it uses your phone's language settings.

Steps

Open Google Chrome
. Its app icon resembles a red, yellow, green, and blue sphere.

Click ⋮. It's in the upper-right side of the browser window. A drop-down menu will appear.

Click Settings. You'll see this option near the bottom of drop-down menu.

Scroll down and click Advanced. It's at the very bottom of the page. Doing so opens additional options.

Scroll down and click Language. This option is below the "Languages" heading, which is about halfway down the page from the top of the "Advanced" section.

Click Add languages. It's a link at the bottom of the "Language" section. Clicking this opens a pop-up window.

Select a language. Check the box to the left of the language that you want to add.
- You may have to scroll down to find the language that you want to use.
- Languages are arranged alphabetically.

Click Add. It's a blue button in the bottom-right corner of the pop-up window. Doing so places your selected language in the list of languages.

Set the language as default. Click ⋮ to the right of the language dialect, then click Display Google Chrome in this language in the pop-up menu.
- Some languages, such as "English", cannot be set as the default language; instead, you'll have to select the "English (United States)" dialect (or another dialect).^{[1]

Click Relaunch. It's to the right of the language that you just set as the Chrome default. Doing so will close and re-open Google Chrome; once Chrome re-opens, your selected language will be used for things like Chrome's Settings menu and other built-in menu options.
- Google Chrome may take 30 seconds or so to re-open.

Once you add the language or choose from the existing there you can find three dots on the right side of where the language is showed you, then click that and then the display Google Chrome in this Language shows up.

Maybe just close Chrome or reset your laptop or PC. If that doesn`t work, then make sure you click the display Google Chrome in this language.

Warnings

If your Chrome browser gets stuck in a language that you don't understand, you may have to uninstall and reinstall Google Chrome.
