Make sure that you have enough Pokéballs with you. Hawlucha's catch rate is around average, so you'll want to bring Great and/or Ultra Pokéballs with you to have the best possible chance of catching it. ^{[2]

- If you'd like to try and catch Hawlucha immediately when the encounter begins, then you can also bring a few Quick Pokéballs with you.

Have Flying, Electric, Psychic, Fairy and/or Ice-Type Pokémon on your team. Because Hawlucha is a Flying and Fighting-Type Pokémon, it is weak to those types of moves. ^{[3]

- Unless it is holding an Iron Ball or Ring Target, affected by Ingrain or Smack Down, or the move Gravity is in effect (in which case these types of moves have a normal level of effectiveness), Hawlucha is immune to Ground-Type moves, so be sure to keep that in mind. ^{[4]

Head to one of the locations where Hawlucha can be found. As mentioned in the introduction, there aren't many locations where Hawlucha can be found. In Pokémon X and Y, Hawlucha can be found on Route 10 (Menhir Trail)or in the Flying-Type Friendship Safari.^{[5]

Walk around in the area you've chosen. Once you've decided on a location, walk around in the grass and flower areas located there. Although it may take a few minutes (and you may end up encountering other Pokémon first), you should eventually encounter a Hawlucha.

Lower Hawlucha's health to about half or less. This will make catching it easier.
- Be careful when using moves intended to poison or burn. If these moves succeed in poisoning or burning Hawlucha, it will slowly lose health, in which case you'll need to catch it quickly, or it may end up fainting.
- Moves like False Swipe are great to use, since they're guaranteed to leave Hawlucha with at least 1 HP.

Throw a Pokéball. Once Hawlucha's health is at about half or less, throw a Pokéball. Although it may take a few tries, you should eventually succeed at catching Hawlucha.
