1Open Slack. If you’re using the desktop app, click Slack in the Applications folder (macOS) or the Windows menu (Windows). If you’re using a web browser, navigate to https://slack.com/signin, then follow the on-screen instructions to access your team.

2Click a channel or message. The steps to make italics are the same whether you type into a Direct Message or chat channel.Advertisement

3Type an underscore _. To make text appear in italics, you’ll need to sandwich it between two underscores.

4Type the text you want in italics. There’s no need to insert a space between the _ and your words.

5Type another underscore _. Your message should now look something like this: _this is the text I want to appear in slanted letters_.
- If you want to include text that isn’t in italics, you can enter it in the same message—just don’t add underscores.
