This wikiHow teaches you how to add simple shapes (such as hearts and stars) to a FaceTime video call on an iPhone or iPad.

Steps

  1. 1
Connect to a FaceTime video call. If you are new to FaceTime, see this wikiHow to learn how to place or answer a call.
    • You must be using iOS 12 or later to use Shapes in FaceTime.[1]
  2. 2
Tap the screen. A row of icons will appear along the bottom.
  3. 3
Tap the effects button. It’s the star at the bottom-left corner of the screen.
  4. 4
Tap the red squiggly line. It’s next to the ″Aa″ button at the bottom of the screen. The ″Shapes″ panel will expand at the bottom of the screen.[2]
  5. 5
Tap a shape you want to use. The shape will appear over your video image.
  6. 6
Drag the shape to the desired position in the video. This is where the shape will remain until you delete it.
  7. 7
Select additional shapes (optional). You can add as many shapes to the video as you wish.
  8. 8
Tap Done. It’s at the top-right corner of the screen. The Shapes panel will collapse.
    • To remove a shape from the screen, tap the shape once, then tap the x at its top-left corner.
