How to Unlock a Gopro

If the screen lock feature is enabled, the screen on a GoPro will automatically lock to prevent accidental touches that can change the shooting mode or switching options. This wikiHow will teach you how to unlock a GoPro screen temporarily as well as how to disable the locking feature.

Unlocking the Screen Temporarily

Drag your finger down from the top of the screen. You'll notice a blue padlock in the middle of your screen if it's locked.

Tap the padlock icon. After swiping down and tapping the padlock, your screen will unlock for a few seconds.

Tap the screen to keep it from locking. When you initially tap the padlock icon, you have about 7-8 seconds before the screen will lock again. Prevent this by tapping the screen again.^{[1]

Disabling the Screen Lock Feature

Swipe down on the screen to show the Settings menu. You'll see a row of icons that represent different functions.

Tap to toggle the padlock icon. A grey icon means the Screen Lock function is off while blue indicates that the feature is enabled.
- If the screen is locked, you'll still be able to see on the screen what the viewfinder sees, but you won't be able to tap the screen for commands.

Tap the icon again to toggle it back. If you don't like the previous setting, you can always go back and change it.
- If you turned ON the screen lock feature, you'll need to unlock the screen temporarily before you're able to repeat these steps and switch the toggle off.^{[2]
