How to Send Email on Android

This wikiHow teaches you how to use the Gmail app on your Android to send email messages.

    Open the Gmail app. Your Google email account (Gmail) was set up automatically when you first signed into your Android. To use it, tap the red and white envelope icon on your home screen. If you don’t see it there, you’ll find it in the app drawer.
    • If you’re using a different email app, you can open that now.

    Tap the new message icon. If you’re using Gmail, it’s a red circle with a white pencil inside.
    • If you’re using another email app, look for a button that says New or contains a + symbol.

    Type the recipient’s email address into the “To:” field. As you type, a list of matching contacts will appear. If you see the address of the person you’re writing, tap to select it.

    Type a subject into the “Subject” field. This gives your email a subject for quick reference and clarity.

    Type your message into the “Compose email” field. This is the body of the email.
    • To attach a file, such as a photo or document, tap the paperclip icon at the top of the screen and select Attach file.

    Tap the paper airplane icon to send the message. In a few moments, your message will arrive to its destination.
