How to Select the Perfect Library Book

We've all been there, standing in the library, not knowing what book to pick. You could read The Hobbit, but you've already read it six times. Or maybe you could sit down with a book like Harry Potter. No, you have read that so many times you've memorized a few parts. So what are you going to do now? Below are steps to help the avid book-lover decide which library book to check out next.

Take time to decide. The fact that you can't decide indicates that you have read a lot of books and most likely enjoy several different genres. Take some time to consider what type of book appeals to you at the moment. You may want to read the latest bestseller while other times you may be interested in older classic literature. It's all there at the library so think it over before you get there.

Be open to new suggestions. Ask a friend or the librarian for their favorites or a new recommendation. If you walk over to the desk to tell the librarian what genre you're looking for and what books you have already enjoyed, then they will be able to help you find a new book.

Try a whole new genre altogether. There's no rule that says you have to only read one kind of book. For instance, if you're usually fond of science fiction, try reading a biography for a change of pace.
- Look for a genre related to your interests. For example, if you like spy thrillers try reading about real-life spies.

Look around with the librarian. Ask questions. Feel free to take a book from the shelves and read the summary or synopsis. If it sounds like a book you might like, then check it out. You can always take it back if you don't like it.

Do some internet research on books. Look for book reviews, bestseller lists, and lists of award winners. You can find many of these items online or a librarian can help you find them.

Try reading a book that inspired a movie you liked. Many movies are based on or inspired by books. Often the book will have more depth and detail to the story so if you liked the movie, you may enjoy the book even more!

Check out the book and try reading it. If you're still unsure which book to read, check out several and read just the ones you enjoy.
- Feel free to stop reading the book if you don't enjoy it. Library books are free and you can always return the book you borrowed to get another one.

Mark your calendar. Keep track of your due dates for your books so you can return them on time or renew them, if needed. Libraries are free until you miss the due date and get charged a late fee.
