This wikiHow article teaches Samsung Galaxy owners how to transfer photos to an SD card. While Samsung Galaxy phones have plenty of internal storage, it's nice to have the option to use an external SD card. These cards make it easy to transfer files from device to device so you never lose your favorite pictures.

Steps

  1. 1
Mount an SD Card to your phone. Samsung Galaxy phones have SD card slots in different places depending on the version. Some can be found under the phone's back cover while others have a slot at the top of the device.
  2. 2
Open the My Files app. This app comes preinstalled on all Samsung Galaxy devices, and the app icon has a yellow background with a folder on it. You can find it in your app drawer.

  3. 3
Select the Images category. When you open the My Files app, you'll see a section near the top of the page titled Categories. The first item in this category should say Images with a green icon of a photo on it.
  4. 4
Choose an image folder. You will now see a list of all folders containing images on your Galaxy. Choose a folder that has images you want to move and tap on it.
  5. 5
Long press on a photo. Pick a photo you want to move and hold your finger on it until your phone vibrates. You'll know the photo is selected by the yellow check mark to the left of the image.
  6. 6
Tap on any other photos you want to move. Now that you are in selection mode, you can just tap on any other photos you wish to move. Once again, you'll know they're selected by the yellow check mark.
  7. 7
Tap the three vertical dots . This button can be found in the top right corner of the screen.
  8. 8
Tap Move. A menu will have popped up, and Move will be the top option.
  9. 9
Select SD card. You'll see a list of locations to move the photos to. Tap on SD card, which will be right beneath the Internal storage option.
    • Depending on the type of SD card or the Samsung Galaxy model, it might say Memory card instead.
  10. 10
Choose a folder. You'll have to choose a folder to move the photos to. Scroll through the list of available folders and subfolders until you find the ideal location.
    • Alternatively, you can create a folder for these photos. At the top of the folders list, you'll see a Create folder option next to a green +. Tap on this, give it a name, and click Create.
  11. 11
Tap Done. Once you are in the folder you want to move the photos to, tap Done in the top right corner of the screen. Your photos will now be on your SD card instead of your phone's internal storage.
