Steps
Method 1
Method 1 of 13:Talk about what you’re doing that day.
-
1Act like you’re busy to keep him guessing about what you’re up to. If he asks what you’re doing, feel free to let him know that you’re out with friends or you’re going to grab drinks with a buddy. If he doesn’t ask, feel free to tell him that you’ll text him later because you have plans.[1]
- You might say something like, “It’s been fun chatting, but I gotta go! Heading out with a friend. Catch ya later!”
- Or, “I’m heading to the beach this weekend! What are you up to?”

Method 2
Method 2 of 13:Keep some details about your life to yourself.
-
1Add some mystery and mystique to your life to leave him wanting more. Instead of divulging everything about yourself, let him in a little, but don’t tell him everything. That way, he knows there’s much more to you than might appear. You might try saying things like:[2]
- “Just had the weirdest day! So many strange coincidences…”
- “I moved here a few years ago, but I’ve lived all around the country. My childhood was kind of an adventure!”
Method 3
Method 3 of 13:Ask him thoughtful questions about himself.
-
1This is a great way to keep him interested in your conversation. Think of a few fun questions that you might ask him to get to know him a little better, like what he does for fun or where his family is from. Then, try to ask one or two questions every time you two text. He’ll remember you as the nice person who wants to know more about him, and that will get him thinking about you a lot. Try to ask open-ended ones that he can’t just answer with yes or no. You could ask questions like:[3]
- What’s your favorite way to spend the weekend?
- Where do you go to relax?

Method 4
Method 4 of 13:Send a fun picture of your location.
-
1Keep him hooked by showing him where you’re at and what you’re doing. Texting messages back and forth all day can get a little boring, so try to spice it up with a fun picture. Plus, you can show off your photography skills, and it may just lead to him asking you questions about the cool shot you snapped.[4]
- For instance, if you sent him a photo of you on a hike, you could say, “Just hiked that new mountain trail! It was a doozy!”
- Or, if you sent him a pic of a nice flower you found, you might say, “Was out walking around and spotted this!”
Method 5
Method 5 of 13:Text him the song you’re listening to.
-
1Reel him in by sending him a romantic song that you like. A little romantic music might get him thinking about you in a different way, and sending a song is a good way to spice up a conversation. Plus, he may feel compelled to look for a song to text you back with![5]Advertisement
Method 6
Method 6 of 13:Send him a funny meme.
-
1Guys love someone who can match their sense of humor. If he’s a goofy guy, screenshot a meme you think he’d like and send it to him via text. Not only will this break up the monotony of a normal text convo, but he’ll probably think about you the next time he sees a meme you might like.[6]
- If you aren’t sure what to send, try searching “meme” on Instagram to find one that you like.
Method 7
Method 7 of 13:Give him some sincere compliments.
-
1A little bit of flattery goes a long way. In general, guys are looking for people who lift them up and inflate their egos. Think of some things you like about him: his personality, his humor, or even his sense of style. Then, send him a few compliments via text to make him think about you, even when you’re not there. You could try something like:[7]
- “You’re so funny! I’ve never laughed so hard at someone else’s jokes before.”
- “You’re such a kind person. I’m so lucky to know you.”

Method 8
Method 8 of 13:Try a few flirty texts to kick things up a notch.
-
1Keep him hooked by sending him flirtatious messages. You don’t have to be overly flirtatious if you don’t want to, but a little teasing or some fun banter is a great way to keep him coming back for more. Try to insert a few flirty texts throughout your convo, like:
- “Hey handsome. What are you up to?”
- “Doing homework again?? Didn’t know I was texting a genius 😉”
- “Can’t wait to see your cute face tomorrow!”
Method 9
Method 9 of 13:Send him something a little saucy.
-
1If you’re feeling bold, a seductive text is sure to catch his attention. Don’t feel pressured to send anything X-rated, but get his engine revving a little bit with a sultry text. You can talk about what you’re wearing, what you’re doing, or the fact that you wish he was here right now. Try something like:
- “Wish I was there with you right now. The things we could do…”
- “I can’t sleep! I keep thinking about you.”

Method 10
Method 10 of 13:Keep your messages positive.
-
1Try to be upbeat so he looks forward to chatting with you. We all have bad days sometimes, but if you want this guy to chase you, you’ll want to keep a positive attitude. Tell him about the good things that happened to you that day, and try to look on the bright side of things—that way, he’ll want to text you even more.[8]
- For instance, you might text him something like, “Just had such a good day! The weather was so nice, I spent the whole time outside. What have you been up to?”
- Don’t forget to add in a few emojis! A smiley face or a heart can really make your message more upbeat.
Method 11
Method 11 of 13:Send one text at a time.
-
1If he doesn’t respond, just leave it be for now. You don’t want to overwhelm him with texts—that could push him away. Instead, if he’s not texting you back right now, move on with your day, and see what he’s doing later on. Hopefully, he’ll revisit the convo later and realize that he forgot to reply.[9]
- If the guy you’re texting tends to leave you on read a lot, it might not be worth your effort. You deserve someone who will text you back, not someone who’s going to ignore you.

Method 12
Method 12 of 13:Take a little while to respond.
-
1Try to match his response time so you don’t seem too eager. For instance, if he takes 1 hour to text back, wait at least 45 minutes to respond to him. It might seem like you’re playing games, but it’s important to match his energy. Otherwise, you might seem too eager, and it could push him away.[10]
- On the flip side, if he’s replying pretty quickly, feel free to respond fast, too. It probably means he’s not super busy, and he has a lot of time to dedicate to your conversation.
Method 13
Method 13 of 13:Post fun stuff on social media.
-
1It might not be texting, but he’ll still notice it! If you two have added each other on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram, keep your status updated regularly, and update your followers about what you’re doing that day. When the guy you’re texting sees what you’ve posted, he might just text you about it![11]
- For instance, if you’re out with your friends, post a selfie on your Instagram story to show how much fun you’re having.
- If you’re having a chill day at home, post about the new show you’re watching or book that you’re reading.
