This wikiHow teaches you how to disable your Windows updater service in order to prevent your computer from automatically detecting, downloading, and installing system updates.
Steps

1Press the ⊞ Win+R keys on your keyboard. Press the Windows logo key and "R" at the same time to open the Run window.

2Type services.msc into Run. This will allow you to browse all your system services.

3Click the OK button. This will process your Run command, and open Services in a new window.

4Scroll down and double-click Windows Update on the Services list. This will open your local computer's Windows update properties in a new window.

5Click the drop-down menu next to "Startup type."

6Select Disabled on the drop-down menu. This option will disable the automatic detection, download, and installation of updates for Windows.
- If you would rather update your computer manually, select Manual instead.

7Click Apply on the bottom-right. This will apply your new settings.
- You may have to restart your computer for the system changes to take effect.

8Click OK at the bottom. This will close the Windows Update Properties window.
