How to Decorate for Christmas

Ask your parents if they have any spare Christmas decorations you could use. Check your basement, garage, closets, etc. for unused holiday decor.

Although decorating for the holidays is fun, it's not for everyone. If you want to decorate for yourself, focus on bringing Christmas cheer to your private spaces, like your room, or your locker at school! You can also spend time in public spaces that are decorated to absorb some extra holiday spirit.

That is a question that only you can answer. Many people like white tinsel trees best, some prefer a classic Norway Spruce. There are those who love Douglas Fir, and those who like artificial trees with built-in LED lights. The best type of Christmas tree is the one you like best.

You could make some snowflakes by cutting folded up pieces of paper (this is a common technique). Also, look in charity shops. Any wrapping paper you get you can cut out Santas or snowflakes or whatever pattern is on the wrapping paper and keep them for next year.

Balconies are fine. I have a friend who lives in an apartment and she has her Christmas tree in her window, and with all the lights it looks great while people are driving by. I would set up a Christmas tree with light in the window facing the balcony and keep the shades open. Another thing that some people do is put lights around the poles of the balcony.

Hide them somewhere you know they won't go, like in your room or in a closet somewhere.

Your parents are probably concerned about several things: The cost, the time needed to decorate and possibly what the neighbors think. You can offer to do the decorating, at least the stuff that doesn't require getting up high, and you can suggest that some friends can come over and help. In terms of saving money, suggest you use existing decorations or go to a thrift store or dollar store to get some affordable decorations. As for any concerns about the neighbors, remind your parents it is a temporary display that comes down after Christmas and that many other neighbors love seeing Christmas themes too.
