This wikiHow teaches you how to switch your Gmail inbox to a different layout type, using Android. You can select an inbox type from a list of available layout presets.
Steps

1Open the Gmail app on your Android. The Gmail icon looks like a white envelope with a red lining around it. You can find it on your Apps menu.

2Tap the ☰ icon on the top-left. It will open your navigation menu on the left-hand side.Advertisement

3Scroll down and tap Settings. This will open a list of all your Gmail accounts.

4Select the account you want to edit. Tap an email address on the list to change your settings for this account.

5Tap the Inbox type option. You can find it under the "Inbox" heading. This will open a list of the available layout types in a pop-up window.
- Default will split your inbox into tabs titled Primary, Social, Promotions, and Updates.
- Important First will list messages tagged as important at the top of your inbox, and list all the others under "Everything else" at the bottom.
- Unread First will list all unread emails at the top.
- Starred First will list all starred emails at the top.
- Priority Inbox will divide your inbox into three sections titled "Important and unread," "Starred," and "Everything else."
