How to Beat the Eye of Cthulhu in Terraria

The Eye of Cthulhu in Terraria floats around, summoning Servants of Cthulhu and swooping around with surprising speed for a giant eyeball. With multiple phases and fairly high defense, the Eye of Cthulhu can present a challenge to beginning players. So, if you're stuck wondering how to beat the behemoth eyeball, read on.

Method 1

Method 1 of 3:
Melee Weapons

Have a look at your options. If you have discovered the Crimson/Corruption, you can craft an Ebonwood/Crimsonwood Sword.

Mine. A Copper (or Tin) sword simply will not do. Look for Gold (Or platinum), or at least make a Silver (or Tungsten) sword.

Craft Spears. As the Eye of Cthulhu floats in the air, unless you want to be constantly jumping, a Spear is a good choice. Strong Spears can do, but there are better beginner Spears. Explore the ocean (Trident), break Crimson Hearts (Rotted Fork), and find them in surface chests.

Explore the possibility of using a Flail. The Flail technically falls into the category of Ranged, but can do as Melee. Either craft the Meatball (the Crimson flail) or break Shadow Orbs to get the Ball 'o Hurt (Corruption flail).

Magic

Get the Starfury. The best way to beat him will be by getting shadow/ Crimson armour (the later preferably) and get a Starfury using water bolts to find a floating island, This will mean you can hit him easily from the sky and very powerfully with the sword which is a mid-late game pre hardmode weapon. With this set-up, it is very difficult to lose

Explore the Dungeon. If you've already beaten Skeletron, than you can find many beginning Magic weapons.

Break Shadow Orbs. This causes Meteorites to land. Out of Meteors, you can craft the Space Gun, which is an excellent Magic/Ranged.

Although this might be a bit much, you can beat Queen Bee in the Underground Jungle. She drops the Bee Gun, which can hurt badly, especially since it shoots bees that hover around the enemy, doing continuous damage.

Explore Hell. This is a step only for intermediate players. In Hell, you can find Demon Scythes, Crystal Shards, and Flamelashes.

Beat Skeletron. He sometimes drops the Book of Skulls, which is an excellent magic weapon for those brave and strong enough to take on Skeletron.

Find gems and ores underground. You can use an ore and it's respective gem to make gem staves, which can be very effective, and help with beating Queen Bee, if you want to do that.

Ranged

Collect loot from surface chests. Blowguns, Bows, Boomerangs, and all that good stuff can be found as typical forest loot.

Get the Arms Dealer. Although this step is more for intermediate players, the Arms Dealer sells the Flintlock Pistol, which is a very useful choice for intermediate players. If you have a bunch of money (35 Gold coins to be exact), you can purchase the Minishark, but this could be a bit much for defeating the Eye of Cthulhu.

As mentioned above, craft Space Guns out of Meteorite. This is more of a magic weapon, but if you're willing to sacrifice a bit of mana, this is a great choice.

Break Shadow Orbs. Occasionally, they drop the Musket, which is another excellent choice for players willing to deal a bit more power into their hits.

Break Crimson Hearts. Every time the first Crimson Heart is broken in a world, it has a 100% chance of dropping the Undertaker, a small little pistol similar to the Flintlock.

It's probably a glitch. Try defeating skeletron again (you have to go in the dungeon and defeat bosses until you get a clothier voodoo) and keep fighting it until you get it again. Then, it will probably work.

Beenades dropped by the Queen Bee or crafted with grenades and bee wax (also dropped by Queen Bee) are a very good choice. In normal mode it takes 10-30 to kill the Wall of Flesh, while in expert it takes 60-80.

Meteorite armor combined with the space gun is powerful enough to kill any pre-hardmode boss. So meteorite armor is more than okay for defeating the Eye.

You will need the sky bridge (see the terraria wiki), the clockwork assault rifle or mega shark with at least 750 crystal bullets. Get adamantite or titanium armor with the ranged ability. You will need wings spectre boots and 3 other accessories of your choice. It took me 4 tries but is was worth it!

Seeing as it as amazingly helpful fighting the twins, it would be suitable fighting with The Eye Of Cthulhu.

Warnings

Make sure to beat the Eye of Cthulhu by morning, or your time and lenses will be wasted, as the Eye flies away.

If using Gravitation potions, you may want to use feather fall as well, due to falling damage, or have a lucky horseshoe equipped
