How to Download and Install Mods for Terraria on PC

Terraria is a 2D sandbox adventure video game developed by a company called Re-Logic. This game is available on Xbox, PlayStation, PSVita, IOS, Android, and PC. This wikiHow will focus on how to properly download and install mods for the Windows PC version of the game.

Installing the Game

Open Steam. Type in Terraria in the search bar then click the Terraria tab.

Add the game to your cart.

Proceed with the checkout.

Go to the Library tab. Once you are in your game library, click Terraria. Once you click Terraria click Install.

Click the Install under drop-down and select the drive you want the game files to be in. Then hit Next. Click Finish.

Installing tModLoader

Go to the tModLoader download page. Scroll down until you see Download, and then click the operating system you use.

Save the .zip file to your desktop.

Open your Terraria folder. By default, its location is C:\ProgramFiles\Steam\Steamapps\common\Terraria. It is very important for you to create a copy of the Terraria.exe file.

Copy and paste the files from the "tmodloader" zip file that was downloaded into the Terraria folder. When asked to replace or skip a file make sure you click Replace.

Next double click Terraria.exe.

Verify it worked. You will know it worked when you launch the game and it says "tModLoader" in the bottom left corner.

Downloading Mods

Click the Mod Browser button.

Find some mods you are interested in and click download.

Go to the main menu and click the Mods button.

Click Enable All. Then click Reload Mods.

What is most likely to harm your PC is installing a mod from an unsafe site. Make sure you are installing mods from safe sources whilst following this process and your PC will be safe. Use Microsoft antivirus to check all files are safe before installing.

Many factors can contribute to loss of UI and lag. If these problems only occur when you are playing a modded version of Terraria, it is most likely a corrupted install- to fix, delete the mod files and Terraria, and reinstall both. However if the base game lags, this is a problem with your computer itself and would most likely be fixed by the purchase of a new graphics card.
