Asking your boyfriend romantic questions is a great way to learn more about him and get closer as a couple. Whether you’ve been dating for a few months or a few years, you can always discover new facts and interesting new qualities about your partner. Try asking him a few of these questions on your next date night to spark a fun conversation that lasts for hours.
Steps
Method 1
Method 1 of 10:“What was your first impression of me?”
-
1Bring back the honeymoon phase of your relationship. You can ask your boyfriend about his first impression of you, when he first fell in love with you, and what made him start liking you in the first place. Feel free to answer these questions about him, too! You could also ask questions like:[1]
- “When did you first start falling in love with me?”
- “What about me caught your attention?”
Method 2
Method 2 of 10:“What’s your favorite memory of us so far?”
-
1Touch on the things he likes about your relationship so far. You two can revisit fond memories and plan future ones at the same time. You could also ask things like:[2]
- “Which date of ours has been your favorite?”
- “Where do you want us to travel to next?”
Method 3
Method 3 of 10:“If you could have dinner with anyone, who would it be?”
-
1Get a conversation started with some scenarios for your boyfriend. You can keep it light and talk about something silly, or you can go deep and ask about how he’d change his life. You could even ask things like:[3]
- “If you had to pick between me and $10 million, what would you choose?”
- “If you knew you only had 1 year to live, would you change anything about your life?”
Method 4
Method 4 of 10:“What’s your fondest childhood memory?”
-
1Learn more about your boyfriend with tales from his childhood. You can ask about his siblings (if he has any), his parents, and his friends that he had while growing up. It’s a great way to learn more about your boyfriend’s past before you knew him. Follow up with questions like:[4]
- “If you could give your younger self some advice, what would it be?”
- “Who was your best friend growing up?”
Method 5
Method 5 of 10:“Which outfit of mine do you like the best?”
-
1Ask him some questions that will rev his engine. You don’t have to be crude about it, but you can start off with a few questions to get his interest. You could also ask:[5]
- “In your opinion, what’s my best physical feature?”
- “Do you think about me when I’m not here?”
Method 6
Method 6 of 10:“How do you express your love for me?”
-
1You can both figure out your love language together. There are 5 different love languages: words of affirmation, acts of service, receiving gifts, quality time, and physical touch. Spend a few minutes figuring out what his main love language is, then compare your love language to his. Ask questions like:[6]
- “What do I do in this relationship that makes you feel appreciated and cared for?”
- “What kinds of things do you feel are lacking in our relationship?”
Method 7
Method 7 of 10:“What is your favorite love song?”
-
1Put some romance in the air by listening to a lovey dovey album. Once he tells you his favorite song, play it off your phone or speaker to set the mood. If you’re really feeling romantic, get up and ask him to dance with you![7]
- If he doesn’t have a good answer, try looking up a romantic playlist on Spotify or YouTube.
Method 8
Method 8 of 10:“Do you believe in aliens?”
-
1Romance doesn’t have to be super serious! Connect with your boyfriend on a lighthearted, silly level by asking questions about his hidden talents or whether he believes in ghosts. For example:[8]
- “What’s your go-to party trick?”
- “Have you ever seen a UFO?”
- “If you could go to the moon, would you?”
Method 9
Method 9 of 10:“Do you ever want to get married?”
-
1If you’ve been dating for a while, marriage could be on the horizon. Ask your boyfriend if he ever wants to get married and how soon he’d like to do that. If he doesn’t want to get married, you can talk about why that is and what he’d like to do instead.[9] Follow up with questions like:[10]
- “Would you prefer a big wedding or a smaller one?”
- “How soon do you see yourself getting married?”
Method 10
Method 10 of 10:“Do you want to have kids someday?”
-
1These are good questions to ask if you’ve been dating for a while. You can start out by asking whether or not he wants children; if you both do, move onto a more detailed Q & A. (If he doesn't want kids, it’s better to find out now rather than down the line).[11] You could ask other questions like:[12]
- “Have you ever thought about the names of our future kids?”
- “Do you think our kids would be cute?”

Try asking him about the future! Something like "Where do you want to be in the next 5 years from now?" is a great way to see if your long-term goals are similar. It can really help to just have open, honest, and intimate communication about where you both stand and understand how you see things in the future.
