This wikiHow teaches you how to use Slack threads to carry on side conversations in a channel.
Steps
Method 1
Method 1 of 4:Creating a Thread
Method 1
-
1Open Slack. It’s in the Applications folder on a Mac and the Windows menu on a PC. If you prefer, go to https://slack.com/signin in a browser, then follow the on-screen instructions to access your workspace.
-
2Click the channel where you want to create a thread. You’ll be able to create a thread for any message in the channel.Advertisement
-
3Hover your mouse over the message for which you want to start a thread. Four icons will appear at the message’s top-right edge.
-
4Click the comment icon. It’s the chat bubble icon near the top-right corner of the message. A new panel will appear on the right side of the message. This is where you can carry on the thread.
-
5Type your response to the message. To start typing, click the typing area at the bottom of the right column.
-
6Click Send. Your response now appears beneath the original message in the thread.[1]
- Participating in a thread automatically subscribes you to its updates. To view all of your subscribed threads, click All Threads near the top of the left column.
- To automatically subscribe someone else to the thread, tag them by typing @ followed by their username.
