This wikiHow teaches you how to start using the Insight Timer app to set up timed meditations and follow meditation courses, using Android.

1Open the Insight Timer app on your Android. The Insight Timer icon looks like metal bowl. You can find it on your Apps menu.

2Tap the I'm new option. This will allow you to sign up for a new account.
- If you already have an account, tap Already a member to log in.

3Fill out the registration form. Enter your full name, email address, and an account password, then tap REGISTER.
- Alternatively, you can tap the Register with Facebook button, and use your Facebook profile to sign up.

4Select your level of meditation experience. Tap the option that best describes your prior experience with meditation.
- You can also select I'm not here to meditate at the bottom of your screen, and skip this step.

5Select your email notification preference. You can choose to allow the app to send you email reminders, or disable all emails.

6Check out your Today page. Insight Timer opens up to your Today page after registration. Here, you can scroll down and view meditations done by the community.
- You’ll see all your tabs at the bottom: Today, Meditation, Timer, Courses, and Profile.

Method 2 of 7:Joining a Group

1Tap the four-circles icon on the top-left. This button looks like four, blue circles in the upper-left corner of your Today page. It will open a list of groups you can join.

2Scroll down and tap a group. Tapping will open the selected group's description and details on a new page.
- You can use the search bar here to find a group by keywords.
- If you want to see nearby or new groups, tap the Popular drop-down below the search bar, and select the category you want to view.
- If you want to filter groups by language, tap the flag icon on the top-right corner of the list, select all the languages you want to see, and tap Done.

3Tap the Join group button. If you like a group and want to join, just tap this button on the group's information page.
- You can view the group messages in the MESSAGES tab, and a list of all the members in the MEMBERS tab.

5Tap the STREAM tab. This button is next to the GROUPS button at the top of your screen. You can view an updated stream of all the messages from all your groups here.Advertisement

1Tap the Today tab on the bottom-left. This button looks like a world icon in the lower-left corner of your screen.

2Tap the figurehead icon on the top-right. This is a blue button in the upper-right corner of your Today page. It will allow you to invite your contacts to use Insight Timer.

3Tap Invite friends from Contacts. This will open your contacts list.
- If you have multiple Google accounts saved to your Android, you may be prompted to select which account you want to use here.

4Select all the contacts you want to invite. Scroll down and tap a contact's name to add them to your selection.

5Customize your invite message (optional). You can tap the Message field at the top of the invitation page, and enter a custom invite message for your contacts here.

Method 4 of 7:Checking Out Meditations

1Tap the Meditation tab at the bottom. This button looks like a headphone icon on a navigation bar at the bottom of your screen.

2Scroll down to view the new meditations. The Meditation page gets updated daily with new meditations. Here, you can find guided meditations, talks, and other content.

3Tap a meditation to view its details. This will open the selected meditation's details on a new page.
- You can view the meditation's total time, description, instructor, reviews, and other related content on this page.

4Tap the Play button on the meditation's picture. This button looks like a white arrowhead icon on the details page. It will start the selected meditation with a timer.
- If you want to quit a meditation, tap the Pause icon at the bottom, and tap one of the DISCARD SESSION or FINISH buttons.

6Tap a meditation category at the top. You can tap one of the boxes at the top of this page to view a list of all the available meditations you can play.
- Meditation categories include Bookmarks, Last Played, Premium, Meditations, Music, Popular, Teachers, Talks, and Playlist.

7Filter the meditations in the selected category (optional). Some meditation categories will allow you to use a filter to narrow down the list of meditations in your selected category.
- You can select a time limit under "How long have you got?" or tap the icon on the top-right for more filter options.
- Some categories like Bookmarks, Last Played, and Playlist do not feature a filter tool.

8Tap the See all button next to a heading. If you find additional categories in your selected meditation category, tap this button on the right-hand side to view all the videos or other content in this section.
- Here, you may find categories like "Popular," "New," and "Great for beginners."
- In some meditation categories, you can also select a practice like Mindfulness or Concentration, or a meditation origin like Consciousness or Buddhism.

9Scroll down and tap a meditation. Most meditation categories will show you a list of popular and new meditation types, videos, or podcasts. Just tap a meditation to view its details.
- Depending on the category you're viewing, you can select a meditation, genre, teacher, or playlist.

Method 5 of 7:Timing a Meditation

1Tap the Timer tab at the bottom. This button looks like a clock icon on a navigation bar at the bottom of your screen.

2Select a starting bell sound. Swipe left and right on the bell icons at the top of the page to select a sound.

3Tap the Duration box. This will open a timer, and allow you to set a duration for your meditation.

4Set a duration for the timer. You can select hours, minutes, and seconds here.
- Alternatively, tap the infinity symbol in the upper-right corner. This will allow you to start a meditation without a time limit.

5Tap the Meditation drop-down below the timer. You can select a different meditation type here, such as Yoga, Tai chi, or Walking.
- You can also select a warm-up at the bottom of the screen.

6Tap Save on the top-right. This will save your meditation duration.

7Tap Interval bells. This option allows you to add periodic bells to designate intervals in your meditation.

8Tap Ambient sound. You can select an ambient background sound for your meditation on this page.

9Tap Ending bell. This option allows you to select a specific bell to indicate the end of your meditation.

10Tap the ⋮ icon on the bottom-right. This will open a pop-up menu.

11Select Save as a preset. This will prompt you to name your current settings, and save it as a preset.

1Tap the Courses tab at the bottom. This button looks like a document icon on a navigation bar at the bottom of your screen. It will open a list of available courses you can purchase.

2Scroll down and tap a course. Just tap on any course here to see the course details.

3Tap the INTRO button in the course details. You can find it in the lower-left corner of the course picture. This will give you a brief preview of the selected course.

4Tap BEGIN at the bottom. This will show you the available purchasing options. You can purchase the course, and begin as soon as possible.Advertisement

Method 7 of 7:Viewing Your Profile

1Tap the Profile tab on the bottom-right. This button looks like a figurehead icon in the lower-right corner of your screen. It will open your profile page.

2Tap the red Add location button below your username. You can find this option towards the top of your profile page. This will allow you to search and add your geographic location to your profile.
- If you've already added your location, it'll be shown here. You can tap the edit button next to it, and change your location anytime.

3Tap the ACTIVITY tab. This button is located below your profile picture near the upper-left corner. You can see all your past meditation activity here.

4Tap the FRIENDS tab. This button is located next to ACTIVITY at the top of your profile. It will show a list of all your friends.

5Tap the GROUPS tab. This button is located between FRIENDS and STATS near the top of your profile. You can view a list of all the groups you've joined here.
- You can tap a group here to open the group page.

6Tap the STATS tab. This button is in the upper-right corner of your profile page. You can scroll down and view all your meditation statistics here, including the consecutive days you've meditated, and your milestones.
- If you want to see detailed statistics, tap the See detailed charts and stats option here.

7Tap the Edit profile and privacy button below your username. This will open your profile details on a new page.

8Edit your profile and privacy options (optional). You can tap your picture here to change it; or edit your username, email, tagline, website, and bio information, as well as change your privacy and social media settings.
- If you want to change a privacy or social option, tap the drop-down menu next to the option you want to change, and select Yes or No in the pop-up.
- Tap Save on the top-right corner to save your profile changes, or Cancel on the top-left to discard changes and go back.

9Tap the bell icon at the top. This will open a list of all your recent notifications.

10Tap the speech balloon icon at the top. This will open your messages. You can view your message threads, and send a new message here.

11Tap the "@" icon at the top. This will open a list of your friend requests. You can accept or remove pending friend requests here.

12Tap the gear icon on the top-right. This will open the Settings menu. Here, you can view your subscription details, timer settings, and other account preferences.Advertisement
