This wikiHow teaches you how to use face-changing filters in FaceTime when you’re using an iPhone. You’ll need to have an iPhone 7 or later to use these filters.

Steps

  1. 1
Get on a FaceTime video call. If you’re new to FaceTime, see this wikiHow to learn how to place or answer a video call.
    • Camera effects are only available on the iPhone 7 or later running at least iOS 12.[1]
  2. 2
Tap the screen while you’re on the call. Some icons will appear at the bottom.

  3. 3
Tap the Effects icon. It’s the star at the bottom-left corner of the screen.
  4. 4
Tap the Filters icon. It’s the three circles (pink, green, and blue) at the bottom of the screen. You’ll see a preview of each filter at the bottom of the screen.
  5. 5
Tap a filter. Swipe left across the options to browse, then tap one to apply it to your face in the call. The filter will appear immediately.
    • The filter will stay active until you turn it off. To turn it off, return to the filter options and select Original (it’s at the beginning of the list).[2]
