English and German have identical alphabet letters except for the four famous German letters that can’t be typed using a conventional US-EN based keyboard. But don’t worry, you only need to remember 4 four-digit numbers and from then on you can type all of them in any program on your computer. It takes a few tries until you master how to do it with ease, but then you'll be good to go!
Steps
-
1Turn on Num Lock.
-
2Press and hold the Alt key on your keyboard.
-
3Type the corresponding number below for the character you want to type:
- ß ==> 0223
- ä ==> 0228
- ö==> 0246
- ü ==> 0252
-
4Release your Alt key. No matter what program you are in, the corresponding character will be typed!
-
5Memorize the relevant codes for easy use. When you've put the whole process together, they'll be like this:
- ß ==> Alt0223
- ä ==> Alt0228
- ö==> Alt0246
- ü ==> Alt0252
