This wikiHow teaches you how to ask Alexa to translate short sentences for you. Currently, Alexa can only pronounce a limited number of languages. For languages that she cannot yet pronounce, Alexa will send the text transcripts of the translation to you in the Alexa app.
Steps

1Say, "Alexa". Say the wake command to wake Alexa and she will begin listening for your next command.
- The default wake command is "Alexa," but if have set a different wake word such as "Echo," "Amazon," or some other command, then use the wake command you previously set.

2Ask Alexa to translate a phrase for you. For example, you can say, "Alexa, translate 'I need to use the restroom,' in Japanese." Alexa can pronounce Spanish, French, Portuguese, Italian, Turkish, Polish, German, Dutch, Swedish, Norwegian, Russian, Japanese, Korean, and a few others—with more languages being added each year.
- You can also phrase questions like, "Alexa, what's the Korean word for 'dumpling'?"

3Open the Alexa App for the translated text. It's the app with the icon that resembles a blue speech bubble with a white outline. If Alexa can't pronounce the language she will still send you the text translation in text form. Open the app on your phone to read the translation. Alexa uses Bing Translate for all language translations.
- You can download the Alexa app on your Android phone from the Google Play Store or on your iPhone from the App Store, then log in with the Amazon account you used to setup your Echo device to get the translation.
