This wikiHow will teach you how to track a train in Google Maps on the mobile app that's available for both Android and iOS. For this to work properly, you need the latest and most up to date Google Maps mobile app (you can get it for free from the App Store and Google Play Store), internet connectivity that can send and receive information, and a Google account.

Steps

  1. 1
Open Google Maps. This app icon looks like a green, blue, yellow, and red map pin that you can find on one of your Home screens, in your app drawer, or by searching.
    • While you can see the general outline of the train's navigation and when it'll get to your destination train station, you will only be able to see the exact location of the train if it's a long train ride.
  2. 2
Type the destination train station in the search bar. You should see this at the top of your screen.
    • If you don't know the train station, you can search the location and you should see the station in the search results as you type.
    • For example, there are multiple train stations in Philadelphia, so as you type "Philly train station," you'll see a list of results for train stations in Philadelphia. T
  3. 3
Tap a result to select it as your destination. You'll see it as a pin on the map.
  4. 4
Tap the blue Directions button. You'll see this at the bottom of your screen, next to the share icon.
  5. 5
Tap the transit icon that looks like a train. It's between the car icon and the walking icon along the top of your screen.
  6. 6
Tap a starting point (if prompted). If you're not prompted to select a starting location, you can skip this step.
  7. 7
Tap Options. You'll see this blue text on the right side of your screen.
  8. 8
Tap to select Train. This will change the results to show only train routes.
  9. 9
Tap Done. You'll see this blue button at the bottom of the transit options window.[1]
  10. 10
Tap a route with a train icon. This will open up more details about the train and that route. You'll be able to see what time to expect the train at both the source and destination train stations.
  11. 11
Tap the train name (if it's a longer ride). You might see where the train is currently located, but this feature only works with long train rides.[2]
