This wikiHow teaches you how to tag someone in a Facebook Messenger group chat on your Android device.
Steps

1Open Messenger. It’s the blue chat bubble icon with a white lightning bolt inside. You’ll usually find it on the home screen or in the app drawer.

2Select a group chat. If you don’t see the chat in which you want to tag a member, use the search box at the top of the screen to find it.

3Type @ into the text box.

4Star typing the first name of the person you want to tag. For example, if you want to tag someone named Derek, type @derek. A pop-up will appear, showing any users in the chat that match what you’ve typed.

5Tap the person you want to tag. When you tap the person, their name will appear in the chat box in blue, right where you’d originally typed the “@” tag.

6Type your message.

7Tap the send button. It’s the blue paper airplane icon at the bottom-right corner of the screen. Your tagged message will now appear in the group chat. The person you tagged will be notified that they’ve been tagged in the chat.

If that doesn't work, go into settings, select find "Messenger" and tap it. Tap "Storage" (or "Memory" on some phones), then tap "Clear cache." Now reopen Messenger and try tagging someone. Type "@" and follow with the name of the person (e.g. @John Doe). A popup should appear with the person you want to tag - simply tap the person and they will be tagged.
