This wikiHow teaches you how to use Family Sharing on your iPhone or iPad to share iCloud storage with your family members.

Method 1
Method 1 of 2:
Setting Up Family Sharing

  1. 1
Update your iPhone or iPad to the latest version. You must be using at least iOS 11 to use these features, so make sure your phone is up to date.
  2. 2
  3. 3
Tap your name. It’s at the top of the screen.
  4. 4
    Tap Set Up Family Sharing.
  5. 5
Tap Get Started. It’s the blue button at the bottom of the info screen.
  6. 6
Tap iCloud Storage. It’s the third option in the list.
  7. 7
Tap Invite Family Members. It’s the large blue button. A “New Message” window will open.
  8. 8
Type the contact with whom you want to share the space. You can type their name, phone number, or email address—as long as this person is one of your contacts, your iPhone should be able to find them.
  9. 9
Type a message (optional). If you want to include a message, tap the box below the “To” field, and then start typing.
  10. 10
Tap the Send button. It’s the blue circle with a white arrow inside. This sends an invitation to the recipient. A confirmation message will appear.
  11. 11
Tap Close. When your family member receives the message, they can tap the link in the message to confirm the invitation. Once confirmed, they’ll be sharing your iCloud Storage space with you (and anyone else you add to the family).

Method 2
Method 2 of 2:
Adding Additional Family Members

  1. 1
  2. 2
Tap your name. It’s at the top of the screen.
  3. 3
Tap Family Sharing. A list of people in your Family now appears under “FAMILY MEMBERS.” These are the people who can share your iCloud Storage as of now.
  4. 4
Tap Add Family Member…. It’s the blue link beneath your list of family members.
  5. 5
Select how to invite the person. You can Invite via iMessage, Invite in Person, or Create a Child account.
  6. 6
Invite via an iMessage. Only use this if you selected Invite via iMessage—if you selected a different invite method, skip these steps. Otherwise:
    • Type the contact’s name or phone number into the “To” field.
    • Type a message (optional).
    • Tap the Send button. It’s the blue circle with a white arrow inside. This sends an invitation to the recipient.
  7. 7
Create a child account. If the person you want to add is under 16, you’ll have to add them as a child. If you tapped Create a Child account, here’s what to do next:
    • Read the “Create Apple ID for a child” screen and tap Next.
    • Enter the child’s birthday and tap Next.
    • Read the security disclosure and tap Agree.
    • Enter the security code from the back of the credit card that’s attached to your account, then tap Next.
    • Type the name you want to use for your child’s Apple ID. This can be a variation of their name or anything you wish. When you’re finished, tap Next.
    • Tap Create if you are satisfied with the ID.
    • Create a password for the new child account and tap Next.
    • Create security questions and tap Next.
    • Read the terms and conditions and tap Agree. Now that the child account is added, they’ll be able to share your iCloud storage wherever they are logged in with their Apple ID.
