This wikiHow teaches you how to use your camera to scan an object or document, and save it to your Dropbox, using Android.

Steps

  1. 1
Open the Dropbox app on your Android. The Dropbox app looks like a cardboard box icon in a dark-blue circle. You can find it on your Apps menu.
  2. 2
Tap the New Item icon. This button looks like a white "+" icon on a blue button in the lower-right corner of your screen. Your upload options will pop up from the bottom.

  3. 3
Tap Scan document on the menu. This option will open your camera, and allow you to use it as a scanner.
    • Your Android may ask here if you want to allow the Dropbox app to access your camera and photos. In this case, tap ALLOW.
  4. 4
Point your camera at the object you want to scan. A blue border will automatically recognize and outline the shape you're scanning.
  5. 5
Wait for your camera to scan the selected document. Your camera will automatically scan the outlined object, and turn it into a document. You will have a chance to see your scanned document on the "Scan preview" page.
  6. 6
Tap the rightward arrow icon. This button is in the upper-right corner of the Scan preview page. It will open the "Save as" page.
    • Alternatively, you can tap Adjust or Rotate at the bottom to edit your scanned document, or Add page to scan more documents to upload.
  7. 7
Enter a name for your scanned document in the "File name" field. Dropbox automatically assigns your current date and time as the default file name. You can change it and enter a different name here.
    • This is an optional step. If you're short on time, you can always leave the document name as it is.
  8. 8
Select a File type. You can save your scanned document as a PDF or JPEG file.
    • As a rule of thumb, JPEG is the more suitable option for image files, and PDF is better for documents.
  9. 9
Tap the folder name next to the "Save to" option. This will open a list of all your Dropbox folders, and allow you to select a location to save your scanned document.
  10. 10
Select a folder for your scanned document. Find the folder where you want to save your document, and tap it.
  11. 11
Tap the blue SET LOCATION button. This button is located in the lower-right corner of your screen. It will set the selected folder as your saving location.
  12. 12
Tap the checkmark icon. This button is in the upper-right corner of your screen. This will save your scanned document to the selected folder.
