This wikiHow teaches you how to restart your Apple Watch by turning it off and then turning it back on. If your Apple Watch won't let you use the Power menu to turn it off, you can also force-restart your Apple Watch.

Method 1
Method 1 of 2:
Using the Power Menu

  1. 1
Wake up your Apple Watch's display. Raise your Apple Watch wrist, or press either of the Apple Watch's buttons.
  2. 2
Press and hold the Power button. It's below the Digital Crown dial. Doing so will prompt the Power menu to appear after a second.
  3. 3
Slide right the "POWER OFF" switch. You'll see this switch near the top of the screen. Your Apple Watch will immediately turn itself off.
  4. 4
Wait ten seconds. Doing so gives the Apple Watch enough time to finish turning off.
  5. 5
Press the Power button. This will turn back on your Apple Watch; you should see the Apple logo appear after a second or so, after which point your Apple Watch should be fully on within 30 seconds.
    • You'll need to enter your Apple Watch's passcode after the Apple Watch finishes restarting.
    • If the Apple logo doesn't appear within ten seconds of pressing the Power button, press it again.

Method 2 of 2:
Forcing the Apple Watch to Restart

  1. 1
Disable Apple Watch screenshots if necessary. Since the two buttons that you'll use to force-shut down the Apple Watch are also used for screenshots, you'll first need to disable screenshots if they're enabled.
    • You can disable screenshots from the General section of the iPhone's Watch app.
  2. 2
Wake up your Apple Watch's display. Raise your Apple Watch wrist, or press either of the Apple Watch's buttons.
  3. 3
Press and hold the Digital Crown and the Power button simultaneously. This will prompt the Apple Watch to begin shutting down regardless of what's on the screen.
    • You'll have to hold down these buttons for around five seconds.
  4. 4
Release both buttons when the screen turns off. Your Apple Watch should now be turned off.
  5. 5
Wait ten seconds. Doing so gives the Apple Watch enough time to finish turning off.
  6. 6
