How to Rename a Channel on Slack on Android

This wikiHow teaches you how to edit and change a chat channel's name in a Slack workspace, using Android.

Steps

Open Slack on your Android. The Slack app looks like an "S" in a colored circle icon on your Apps menu.
- If you're not automatically signed in, tap the blue SIGN IN button in the lower-left corner, and log in to the workspace you want to edit.

Tap your workspace icon on the top-left. This button looks like the initials of your workspace's name in the upper-left corner of your screen. Tapping will open a navigation menu on the left-hand side.

Tap the channel you want to edit under CHANNELS. Find the CHANNELS heading on your navigation menu, and tap the channel you want to rename. This will open the selected channel's chat conversation.

Tap the
icon. This button is located below the "⋮" icon in the upper-right corner of the channel chat. It will open the Channel details page for the selected channel.

Tap the EDIT button. This option is written in blue letters below your channel topic on the Channel details page. It will allow you to change this channel's name, purpose, and topic lines.

Tap your channel's current name. Your channel's current name is listed below the Name heading at the top of the Edit channel page. You can rename your channel in this text field.

Edit your channel's name in the Name field. You can edit parts of the current channel name here, or delete it and enter a new name.
- Optionally, you can also edit your channel purpose and topic here before saving.

Tap the SAVE button. This button is located in the upper-right corner of the Edit channel page. It will save your channel's new name, and go back to the Channel details page.
