This wikiHow teaches you how to recover a lost Snapchat password on an Android phone or tablet, as well as how to create a recovery code that can be used in case you ever lose access to your two-factor authentication method.
Steps
Method 1
Method 1 of 3:Resetting Your Password
-
1Open Snapchat on your Android. It’s the yellow icon with a white ghost inside. You’ll usually find it in the app drawer or on the home screen.
- If you don't remember your password and still have access to the phone number or email address on file with Snapchat, you can use this method to get back into your account.
-
2Tap LOG IN. It’s the red button near the bottom of the screen.
-
3Type your username or email address into the first blank.
-
4Tap Forgot your password?. It’s the blue link above the “Log In” button.
-
5Select Via Phone or Via Email. This determines how the reset code will be sent to you.
-
6Prove that you aren’t a robot. You’ll have to tap all squares that contain the object mentioned at the top of the screen and then tap Continue.
-
7Verify your phone number or email address and tap Continue.
- If you entered a phone number, choose whether to receive the code via SMS or by a voice phone call.
- If you entered an email address, the code will be sent to you via email.
-
8Type the code and tap Continue. If you didn’t receive the code, tap Send code again and then wait a few minutes.
-
9Create a new password and tap Continue. Type the new password into the first box, and then again into the second box. This signs you into Snapchat.
Method 2
Method 2 of 3:Creating a Recovery Code for Two-Factor Authentication
-
1Open Snapchat on your Android. It’s a yellow icon with a white ghost inside. You’ll usually find it in the app drawer.
-
2Tap your profile photo/avatar. It’s at the top-left corner of the screen. This opens your profile.
-
3Tap the gear. It’s at the top-right corner of the profile screen.
-
4Tap Login Verification. It’s the first option.
- If a confirmation screen appears, tap CONTINUE when prompted.
-
5Tap Recovery Code. You’ll see a message that informs you that your recovery code can be used to log in on other devices if you ever lose access to your phone number.
-
6Tap GENERATE CODE. It’s at the bottom of the screen.
-
7Enter your password and tap CONTINUE. This displays the recovery code.
-
8Write down the recovery code and tap I wrote it down. Now if you ever lose access to the email address or phone number you have on file with Snapchat, you'll still be able to access your account.
Method 3
Method 3 of 3:Using the Recovery Code
-
1Open Snapchat on your Android. It’s the yellow icon with a white ghost inside. You’ll usually find it in the app drawer or on the home screen.
- If you’re signing in on a new Android and no longer have access to the phone number or email address used for your Snapchat’s two-factor authentication (Login Verification), you can still recover your account using the code you generated.
-
2Tap LOG IN. It’s on the pink stripe near the bottom of the screen.
-
3Enter your username and password and tap Log In. If you use two-factor authentication, Snapchat will send a confirmation text or email message to the number or address on file. Since you generated a recovery code, you can use that instead.
-
4Enter the recovery code when prompted and tap Continue. As long as the code is entered properly, you’ll be signed in.
- A message will appear, informing you that Login Verification is now disabled.
- You can only use the recovery code once. After you log back in, make sure to create a new code and enable 2-factor authentication.
