This wikiHow teaches you how to share an animated GIF image on Instagram when you’re using your computer. When downloading the GIF from the web, be sure to save it as a video (.mp4) file.
Steps
-
1Save the GIF to your computer as a video. There are plenty of sites online where you can download GIFs, such as Giphy and Gifs.com. When downloading the GIF, be sure to select the option to download as an .MP4 file (video).
- If you’re using Giphy, click the Download link for the GIF, then select MP4 (the next-to-last option).
-
2Install Gramblr on your computer. It’s a free application that lets you post to Instagram from your computer.
- Go to gramblr.com in any web browser.
- Click the download link for your operating system.
- Run the installer. If you’re using macOS, double-click the downloaded file, then drag the Gramblr icon to the Applications folder. If you’re using Windows, double-click the installer, then follow the wizard to complete the installation.

3Open Gramblr. If you’re using Windows, it’s in the All Apps area of the Start menu. If you have macOS, open the Applications folder, right-click Gramblr and then select Open.[1]
-
4Sign up for Gramblr. Click the Sign up link at the bottom-right corner of the login area, then follow the on-screen instructions to create your account.
- You’ll be asked for your email address and to create a password.
- You’ll have to enter your Instagram username and password so Gramblr can link to the account.
-
5Click Click here to start. It’s in the box at the center of the right panel. This opens your computer’s file browser.
-
6Browse to the folder that contains the file.
-
7Select the file and click Open. This imports the video (remember, you converted the GIF to a video when you downloaded it) to the page.
-
8Crop the video. Drag the mouse cursor to select the part of the video you want to post. You can even select the entire video—it’s just important that you make some sort of selection so the thumbs-up button turns green.
-
9Click the thumbs-up button. It’s to the right of the video.
-
10Add a caption. Anything you type into this box will be posted along with the video.
-
11Click Send. It’s the green button at the bottom of the right panel. This uploads the video to your Instagram feed.Advertisement
