Lightning mode is a great way to test their speed in Bejeweled 3. Here's how the mode is played.

Steps

  1. 1
From the mode menu, select Lightning Mode.
  2. 2
Find your first match and start playing. It is very important to match three gems.
  3. 3
Look for Time Gems with a +5 and a +10 on it. They add time to your next round.
  4. 4
Keep matching gems for a Speed Bonus. This is very helpful to get a high score.
  5. 5
When the Speed Bonus meter is full, then it will activate Blazing Speed.
  6. 6
When the round is over, the combined time gets carried over to the next round. Once this occurs, any "+5" and "+10" time gems on the board are turned into flame and star gems respectively, and the multiplier increases by one.
  7. 7
Repeat the steps above and keep going.
  8. 8
When the timer hits zero and there is no time in the meter below the score, then a Time Up message will appear. This signals the end of the game.
  9. 9
When the game ends, there will be a Last Hurrah bonus. All the time gems on screen will transform into normal gems, and any special gems still on the board will automatically activate, as will any others that are created due to a cascade.

You will no longer get a bonus.
  • Question
Am I supposed to save the jewels with the numbers, or match them so they disappear?

With the gems with numbers, called time gems, you should match them, so that when the active timer runs out, you will continue with more time for the next round. The higher the round number/multiplier, the lower the rate that time gems appear.
  • Question
What is so special about Blazing Speed?

The special thing about Blazing Speed is the fact that, while it is active, any matches act like you triggered a flame gem at the spot where the gem you moved created the match.
