How to Mute a Group Chat on Skype on iPhone or iPad

This wikiHow teaches you how to turn the notifications off for a group chat for both the iPhone and iPad versions of the Skype app. In large groups with active members, muting the notifications of a group can be necessary if the notifications become too frequent and annoying.

Method 1

On iPhone

Open Skype. It's the blue app with the white letter "S" in the middle.
- Log in with your email or phone number, and password if you haven't already.

Tap the Chats tab. It's at the top of the screen in the center, just below your profile image. This will display all your recent conversations.

Tap the group you want to mute.

Tap the group's name. Tap the group's name or the participants at the top of the chat window.

Tap the switch for "Notifications" to the 'OFF' position. It's down under the "Group Settings" section. You'll no longer receive any notifications from this group.
- Alternatively, you can leave Notifications on and enable Smart Notifications instead, which will only notify you if someone replies to one of your comments or mentions you in theirs.

Open Skype. It's the blue icon with the "S".
- Log in with your email or phone number, and password if you aren't already logged in.

Tap the Recent tab. It's at the bottom.

Tap the group you want to mute. This will open the group's conversation.

Tap the group's name or participants. The group name or the names of the group members are listed at the top. Tapping the heading will open the group settings page.

Tap the switch for "Notifications" to the 'OFF' position. It's in the "Group Settings section.
- You can also turn off "In-App sounds" in the Settings menu under the My Info tab of the Skype home screen if you want to receive silent notifications instead.
