This wikiHow teaches you how to meditate with the Calm app on an iPhone or iPad.
Steps

1Open Calm. It’s the blue icon with the word ″Calm″ inside. You’ll usually find it on the home screen.
- If you haven’t yet installed Calm and created an account, see Use Calm App on iPhone or iPad before you continue.

2Tap Meditate. It’s at the circle icon at the bottom-center part of the screen.
- If you don’t have a premium subscription or free trial, you are only able to use the 7 Days of Calm meditation.

3Select a meditation category. A list of topics (e.g., Anxiety, Stress) appears at the top of the screen. Swipe left across this list to view all available categories, then tap one that interests you.
- If you’re new to Calm, try the Beginners category first.

4Tap a meditation. Depending on the selection, you may see a list of life qualities this meditation will address (e.g., Sleep, Purpose, Self-Compassion), an amount of time (e.g., 3 minutes, 20 minutes), or topics (e.g., Grief, Gratitude).
- Some meditations, such as Breathe and Body Scan, don’t have any additional options and will begin immediately.

5Tap a topic or time. If you select a meditation that displays a list of topics or times, tap your desired selection to highlight it.

6Get comfortable. Situate yourself somewhere quiet and distraction-free before starting the meditation.

7Tap Start Session. It’s at the bottom of the screen. The meditation will begin to play immediately.

8Follow along with the recorded meditation. After the meditation is complete, you’ll see a message that tells you you’ve completed your session.
- To increase or decrease the volume of the background sounds, tap the volume slider icon (at the bottom-left corner of the screen), then drag the slider up or down.
- To pause the meditation, tap the pause button (two vertical lines) at the bottom of the screen.
