Part 1
Part 1 of 1:
Making Your Map

  1. 1
Get graph paper and a pen ready. You might say, "I want to erase", but you can't if you follow this! Okay? Good.
  2. 2
Draw some dots, some in circles, some not. Name the dots. The ones not in a circle are towns and villages, the others are cities.

  3. 3
Draw squiggly lines that snake around them all. A few of them might go through towns or cities. Name the lines. These are rivers. You can make one or multiple gather into a circle (a lake) somewhere on the map.
  4. 4
Add upside-down Vs in little clusters and name them. These are mountains. Make some more rivers that start in the mountains.
  5. 5
Draw forests which could be little circles, trees, or anything on the map. Name the forest.
  6. 6
Now that you have natural stuff and towns, add the borders to the nation(s) on your map. Name your nation or nations and draw and name a star (a capital city). In olden times, borders were natural things like lakes or mountains.
  7. 7
Add the shoreline (optional) and islands.
  8. 8
Add other stuff like dams, walls, trade routes, and ruins of old things.
  9. 9
Clean up the map. Any stray lines or messed-up things can be changed. Name everything that is unnamed, and voila! You have it!
  10. 10
    Finished.

Of course you can. Some countries in real life have two capitals, such as Bolivia, and fantasy kingdoms can have as many capitals as you want.
  • Question
Can you make multiple kingdoms on one page?

Of course you can! It'll have to be sized accordingly, however. Make sure the dimensions of your kingdom are realistic and reflect the size or description mentioned in your story (if you're making a story). You can refer to pre-made maps made on the internet for inspiration. It's totally possible, and a really fun thing to do. Maps don't have any limits.

Things You'll Need
