Many Harry Potter fans would love to have their own Harry Potter wands, but most Harry Potter merchandise are getting very expensive, especially now that it's the end of the Harry Potter saga, by using this guide you will be able to make a Harry Potter wand of your own.
Steps
-
1The first thing to do when making a Harry Potter wand is to get a stick, either straight from a tree or one that's fallen off a tree. (Remember to cut of the extra bits and cut a little bit off the tip to straighten it up and it has to be about 1.5 cm thick or thicker).
-
2Use a potato peeler to peel off all the bark until the stick is about 1.4 cm thick or a little thicker.
-
3After that, make a small thin mark using a black marker on the place you wish to be as your base. Now use the potato peeler to peel off from the mark making it thinner than the base by about half the base's thickness or thinner.
-
4Smooth up the wand using either a penknife or sandpaper, when you're done the base should be about 1.1 cm or less.
-
5Now for the best bit, decorating! (If you're leaving your wand plain, skip to the next step) For example, if you're making Harry's wand, you'd paint the wand black until the mark then you'd paint the rest brown or if you don't have paint, you can use a black marker to color the stick in and then use the permanent marker as a second layer then add either varnish, olive oil or baby oil to give it a shine.
-
6Now cut the elastic band off the ring light and replace it with string and wrap it around the tip of the stick and now you have an illuminating Harry Potter wand!

Community Q&A
-
QuestionWhat is the thinnest it can get?
Community AnswerAs thin as you'd like, so long as it doesn't wobble and isn't easily broken. You probably wouldn't want to go much thinner than a chopstick. -
QuestionShould I leave some bark on the handle if I want a rough wand?
Community AnswerSure, you can leave bark on the handle and just sand down the rest as you see fit. -
QuestionHow long does the wand have to be?
Community AnswerI think it should be about 11 to 12 inches, but it's really up to you; it depends on your own size and what you feel comfortable holding. -
QuestionDo I have to strip the stick at all?
BailynCommunity AnswerIt's not necessary, but it could help, depending on what kind of wand you're going for. -
QuestionWhat if you don't have a stick?
BailynCommunity AnswerGo outside and look in your yard for a decent-length stick. No luck? Find a tree, there's plenty of those around (for now).
Warnings
- If you're using the second method, be careful the doweling doesn't snap. Thanks!
- Be careful when scraping-you don't want to hurt yourself. Thanks!
