In America, chalupas are the "pita" version of a regular taco. With different kinds of meat available and a few vegetable goodies, this crunchy flatbread taco is great.
Ingredients
- 1 pound of ground beef
- 1/4 cup of flour
- 1 tablespoon of chili powder
- 1 teaspoon of paprika
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1 tablespoon of dried minced onion
- 1/2 cup of water
- flat bread (pita will work)
- oil (for deep-frying)
- sour cream
- shredded lettuce
- shredded Cheddar-Jack cheese
- diced tomatoes
Steps
-
1Get a small bowl and combine the water with the onions. Place it on the side for about 5 minutes.
-
2Get a medium sized bowl and combine the chili powder, salt, paprika, ground beef, and flour. Pour in the onion mixture and mix everything together thoroughly.
-
3Heat the skillet and cook the mixture. Because of the flour and water, be sure to keep stirring to avoid large chucks. The result of cooking this mixture should become a paste.
-
4Remove the skillet from the heat, but try to keep the mixture warm.
-
5Use another skillet or a deep fryer with the bread. You'll only need to fry each piece for 30 seconds each. Drain and settle the pieces on paper towels.
-
6Start making your chalupas. Take some of the meat mixture, then scoop up some sour cream and put it on the meat. Sprinkle lettuce, cheese, and then tomatoes. These items needs to be in order. Use hot sauce if you wish.
-
7Finished.
