When making a creature in Spore, one thing that plagues creators is making the hips smooth while keeping the thighs realistically thick. While there are mods that help with this, such as the Smoother mod, they have their limits and still usually leave the creature with hips 2-3 times wider than the rest of the body. Additionally, methods that use mods almost always make it impossible to share the creature online. This method solves both of those problems.

Steps

  1. 1
Make the front half of the creature's body.
    • This includes the head, neck, and roughly half of the torso--including the belly, but not the pelvic area.
  2. 2
Add a pair of legs to the back end of the body.
    • Make sure the legs have feet, even if you intend to replace them with hands later.

  3. 3
    Make the hips thicker.
    • Even if you don't intend to give your creature especially large thighs, it's better to start larger to make the next few steps easier.
  4. 4
Lengthen the spine through the legs
    • The hips should stay deeply embedded in the body as long as a foot is attached.
    • If you're making a creature with a long thick tail, such as a dinosaur, it's perfectly safe to extend the spine well beyond the hips.
  5. 5
Adjust the proportions of the legs as desired.
    • If you skipped step 3, this may be very difficult.
    • Don't try to move the hips to a different part of the body--they'll snap back to the outside! If you think you placed them wrong, shorten the spine and try again.
  6. 6
    Finish your creature.
    • With those great smooth legs and a few finishing touches, your creature is ready to take on the world!

Warnings

  • Rescaling any part of the spine will cause the legs to pop back to the outside of the body, forcing you to start over. Be careful!
