How to Make a Broom Using a Coconut Leaf

Coconut trees provide human beings with food and drink, shelter, fuel and a raw material to make items from. One such item is a simple yet effective broom for the house, using one of the tree's giant leaves. It's a lot easier to use a leaf that has fallen down of its own accord, as getting up the tree is hard work, and the leaves are large.

Steps

Find one large coconut leaf. Either find one on the ground, or ask for one from someone who is adept at climbing coconut trees safely.

Drag the leaf to a comfortable spot. Set yourself up so that you're sitting comfortably.

Cut the leaflets from the leaf. Always take care when cutting with a knife or blade.

Arrange the leaflets neatly in a pile. Remove any unwanted scrappy pieces and any dead pieces.

Take one leaflet. Then cut the leaf part alone into two halves, using either a blade or knife, leaving the stalk behind.

After removal of the leaf part, shave off any excess scraps from the stalk and put aside.

Do the same procedure for all of the leaflets, turning them into broomstick pieces.

Collect up all the broomstick pieces you've just created.

Tie the broomstick pieces together with the rope. You now have a broom. You can use this broom for cleaning and sweeping wooden, stone, soil or other floors. With care, it can even be used on some rugs and carpets with tough weaves.
