It can be difficult to find a prepared pasta sauce that is vegan and full of flavour. This spicy, vegan sauce is very easy to prepare and will fill your home with the aromas of Nonna’s kitchen. It's so good that it will make avid carnivores completely forget about meat.
Servings: 4 to 6
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 40-50 minutes
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil
- 2 tsp. crushed red pepper flakes
- 3 garlic cloves, peeled and minced
- 2 green onions, chopped
- 28 oz. crushed tomatoes
- 2 cups water
- 1 tbsp. sugar
- 2 tbsp. salt
- 1 tsp. black pepper
- 2 tbsp. chopped basil (optional)
Steps

1Place a 2-6 quart pot on stove and turn to medium heat, add olive oil. After 1 minute, add crushed red pepper flakes.

2Add garlic and green onions after two minutes, sauté for only one minute to prevent the garlic from turning brown.

3Stir in crushed tomatoes, water, sugar, salt, and black pepper.

4Cook on medium-low heat for 30-40 minutes until the sauce begins to thicken, stirring every 5-10 minutes.

5Remove from heat, garnish with fresh basil, and serve.
