At times, we either don't have the time or certain ingredients to make desserts. It's not cheating nor taking shortcuts when using prepared mixes in cooking and baking.
Ingredients
Makes 36 cookies
- 1 (1 lb 1.5 oz) sugar cookie mix
- 2 tablespoons (15 grams) all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup (75 grams) butter or margarine, softened
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup (50 grams) sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Decorative icing tubes
Steps
Part 1
Part 1 of 2:Making the Dough
Part 1
-
1Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
-
2Mix the wet ingredients. In a large bowl, beat the butter and egg with a stand or hand mixer.
-
3Mix the dry ingredients. Use a medium bowl to combine the flour and cookie mix with a metal wire whisk.
-
4Incorporate the two bowls. Sift the dry ingredients into the wet ingredient bowl.
- For the best results and easier stirring, sift a small amount at a time in between stirring.
Part 2
Part 2 of 2:Baking the Cookies
Part 2
-
1Create your cinnamon sugar mixture. Mix the 1/4 cup (50 grams) sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon together in a small bowl.
-
2Form dough balls. Use a cookie scoop to form 1-inch (2.54 cm) balls.
-
3Gently roll each ball into the cinnamon sugar. Place them on a parchment paper lined baking sheet, about two inches apart from each other.
-
4Bake the cookies for about 11 to 12 minutes.
-
5Allow the cookies to cool. Leave them on the cookie sheet for a few minutes. This is to allow the cookies to actually "set" while still piping hot.
-
6Dress them with additional cinnamon and sugar. Sprinkle the mixture before the cookies completely cool down.
-
7Transfer the cookies to a wire cooling rack. Set aside for about 15 to 20 minutes.
-
8Decorate the cookies. Use the decorative icing tubes to draw designs on them for a finish touch.
-
9Finished.

QuestionWhat if I don't have parchment paper? Can I just bake the snickerdoodle cookies on the cookie sheet itself, or is there another substitute?
Community AnswerYou can use wax paper as a substitute for parchment paper. If you don't have wax paper, use butter to grease the cookie sheet, then you can bake the cookies directly on that. -
QuestionIs it possible to use pre-made sugar cookie sheets to make snickerdoodle cookies?
Community AnswerYes. Put the dough in a bowl, and evenly knead in cinnamon chips. After shaping the cookie dough into balls, roll it in a 1:1 mixture of cinnamon and white sugar. Alternately, you could omit the chips and just roll the cookies in the cinnamon sugar mix.
