How to Make Reusable Cloth Bags

Reusable cloth bags are economical and practical for shopping. If you don't have one, though, you can make your own. By following the steps in this wikiHow, you'll soon have your own unique reusable cloth bag.

Creating the Bag

Sew the lining fabric and outer fabric.

Cut out the outside fabric and lining fabric. Both should be in the size of 28 centimeter (11.0 in) by 80 centimeter (31.5 in); leave 1 centimeter (0.4 in) for seam allowance at each side. Cut two strips for the bag handle in accordance with your height.

Cut out the cotton lining in the same size of fabric. It is used for flatting the surface of the bag.

Lay the lining fabric and cotton fabric together. Fold the two pieces in half, then make the lining fabric faced with the right side; sew along the edges.

Fold the outside fabric in half with right side faced and sew along the edges. This should be similar to what you did in the last step.

Making the Body of the Bag

Turn the lining fabric and outside fabric inside out. Then, put the lining fabric into the outside fabric.

Add cotton fabric to the strip. Then, sew the two strips into tubular shapes; there should be apparent stitches at both sides of the strip on its right side.

Put the handle between the outside fabric and lining fabric at each side.

Sew along the upper edges. A bag is basically formed.

Making the Bag Unique

Choose unique colors for the bag. The colors you choose for the bag are completely up to you, and can help make it unique.
- You might use just one color, or you might consider choosing warm colors such as yellow and orange, or cool colors such as blue and purple. The choice is completely yours.

Trace a design of your favorite animal on a piece of fabric and cut out the pattern. You can either stuff it with stuffing to make a stuffed dog, or simply sew it onto the bag.
- You can also sew a bow near the dog's neck or attach a brooch if you'd like.

Add sequins to the bag. This can help give your bag some flair, and it can either be done using glue or by sewing them on.

Draw a design on your bag using fabric markers or paint. This can be a great way to give your bag its own unique appearance.
