A treacle pudding is a British dessert dish made of steamed sponge cake with a golden syrup or molasses cooked on top of it. Traditionally, you would need a steamer to make this pudding, but this article will give you a recipe that uses a microwave, and should take less than 15 minutes to make!
Ingredients
- 1 egg
- 2 tbsp water
- 4 tbsp milk
- 2 drops vanilla essence
- 1/4 cup caster sugar (white sugar ground in a food processor will work in a pinch)
- 60g shredded suet
- 1 cup self raising flour
- 3 tbsp golden syrup or treacle
Steps
-
1Oil the inside of your bowl lightly. Only oil about halfway up the sides, or the pudding may not rise correctly.
-
2Combine the flour, suet, and sugar in a large bowl. Mix well.
-
3Combine the remaining ingredients in a smaller bowl. Mix well.
-
4Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Again, mix well.
-
5Cover the bowl with plastic wrap. Make it snug, but not so tight that steam cannot vent.
-
6Microwave on HIGH for 2 minutes.
-
7Remove the plastic wrap.
-
8Rotate the bowl. This isn't necessary for 'turntable' style microwaves
-
9Microwave another 2 minutes on HIGH.
-
10Remove from the microwave, and quickly cover with plastic wrap again.
-
11Allow the pudding to rest for another 2 minutes. Then remove the plastic wrap.
-
12Turn the bowl over, onto a plate.
-
13Enjoy your freshly 'steamed' treacle pudding!
