Make a yummy and delicious lip balm that soothes dry, chapped lips. These are great for party gifts, thank you presents, or for your own self indulgence.
Ingredients
Cocoa Powder
- 1 1/2 tsp butter
- Cocoa powder or Ovaltine, Nesquik, Milo, etc.
Chocolate Chips
- Vitamin E capsule
- Chocolate chips
- 1 tsp cocoa butter
Steps
Method 1
Method 1 of 2:Using Cocoa Powder
Method 1
-
1Melt the butter in the microwave container for about 25 seconds, or just until it turns into a liquid.
-
2Remove carefully and place aside.
-
3Microwave the cocoa powder in another container for 20 seconds, or until it melts.
-
4Mix the two well. Smell the mixture and add more ingredients as needed (more cocoa if too buttery, more butter if too cocoa-y).
-
5Do not mix for too long because the runnier the mixture, the more time it takes to harden.
-
6Pour the mixture into the lip balm pot. If there is too much, you could either eat it or put it into another container.
-
7Place in the fridge to set. Once solid, take out and apply!
Method 2
Method 2 of 2:Using Chocolate Chips
Method 2
-
1Gather these ingredients
- 1 tsp. cocoa butter
- Chocolate chips
- Vitamin E capsules (found at pharmacies/drug stores)
-
2Put all ingredients into a saucepan.
-
3Heat on low heat.
-
4Stir with the wooden spoon until melted.
-
5Turn the stove off, remove from heat and spoon mixture into (a) plastic pot(s). Leave them in the fridge (not freezer) until solid.
-
6Remove from fridge and apply.
Community Q&A
-
QuestionWhy do we need the Vitamin E tablets for the chocolate chip method?
Community AnswerVitamin E is very good for skin, hair, and nails. -
QuestionCan you use petroleum jelly instead of the butter in the first lip balm making option?
Community AnswerYes, petroleum jelly would also work very well, as it has a thick consistency and mixes well. -
QuestionCan you use Vitamin D3?
Community AnswerYes, you can use Vitamin D3. It works well in lip balm. -
QuestionCan I use Nutella?
Community AnswerNutella is a chocolate product, not actually chocolate, so it will not set the way that chocolate does. If you still want the Nutella taste, you could add a little bit of Nutella or some hazelnut flavoring. -
QuestionDo I have to use a saucepan?
Community AnswerNo. You could use a heat-proof bowl instead and just microwave the mixture to melt it, but it would be much easier to do this in a saucepan so you can make sure not to overheat the mixture. -
QuestionWhy can't I eat the chocolate lip balm? It's just butter and chocolate powder.
Community AnswerYou could. However, it may not taste very good. Lip balm is made for lips, and not your taste buds. -
QuestionCan I eat the chocolate lip balm?
Community AnswerNo, you should not eat the chocolate lip balm for health and safety reasons. It is not edible. -
QuestionHow do I make lip balm like The Body Shop?
Community AnswerYou'll find Make Beeswax Lip Balm helpful. -
QuestionCan I use this on my face?
Community AnswerI would not recommend that you use this product on your face, as it would leave a very waxy texture and may clog your pores. -
QuestionDo you need to use the Vitamin E in the lip balm?
Community AnswerIt's not absolutely necessary, but the Vitamin E adds moisturizing properties.

- Be careful when you take the butter and cocoa out of the microwave because they can be really hot. They won't burn you, but you could get a surprise, knock the container and it could spill. Thanks!
