What's better than hot dogs? Hot dogs wrapped in bacon!

Ingredients

  • Hot dogs
  • Bacon slices (one slice per hot dog)
  • Brown sugar for sprinkling (optional, but delicious}
  • Vegetable oil or butter

Steps

  1. 1
Lay out a slice of bacon on a silicon or wooden cutting board.
  2. 2
Place the hot dog on the bacon at one end. Roll the bacon and hot dog around and around until the bacon covers the whole hot dog. Set aside.
  3. 3
Repeat with the remaining hot dogs. You might need to use toothpicks to hold the bacon in place––judge this as you roll.
  4. 4
Heat the heavy-based skillet over low heat. Add the butter or oil (use sparingly, as the bacon will make more fat as it cooks). Be mindful of spattering grease.
  5. 5
Add the bacon-wrapped hot dogs. Sprinkle with a little brown sugar, if desired.
  6. 6
Fry. Turn over midway, when the bottom side has browned and the bacon has begun to get crisp. Fry until the bacon looks cooked. Note: You might need to drain some of the grease from the skillet at this point.
  7. 7
Remove skillet from the heat. Carefully lift out the cooked hot dogs with tongs or a spatula. Place on paper towelling to drain excess grease.
  8. 8
Serve with coleslaw, cheese, mustard, relish or whatever other condiments you enjoy with hotdogs.

Community Q&A

  • Question
How do I keep the bacon from unwrapping from the hot dog?
    Community Answer
    Community Answer
Either put the ends side down and cook them first, or secure the bacon with toothpicks.
  • Question
Can I use sausages instead of hot dogs?
    Community Answer

    Yes, you can.
  • Question
Does the hot dog have to be cooked in the pan first, or do I just use it straight out of the tin?
    Community Answer
    Community Answer
Straight out of the tin will work. The cooking of the bacon will heat up the hot dog.
  • Question
    Can I season the bacon?
    Community Answer

You can, but seasoning can be easily overpowered by the strong tastes of both the bacon and the hot dogs. Simple freshly-ground black pepper may be your best bet.
