How to Keep Apps from Running in the Background on Android

This wikiHow teaches you how to force stop an app, and prevent it from running in your Android's background.

Steps

Open the Settings app. Find and tap the
icon on your Apps menu to open Settings.
- Alternatively, you can slide down the notification bar from the top of your screen, and tap the
  icon in the upper-right corner.

Scroll down and tap Apps on the Settings menu. It will list all of your installed apps.
- Depending on your version of Android, this option may also be named Applications or Application manager.

Find and tap the app you want to stop. This will open the app's info page.

Tap the Force stop button. This button is listed under the app name on the info page.
- You will have to confirm your action in a new pop-up window.

Tap Force stop or OK in the confirmation pop-up. This will stop and close the selected app.
