This wikiHow will teach you how to use remove wireless networks from your preferred networks on a Mac. When your computer searches for wireless connections, it will show you all the available networks. Once you connect to a network (often with a password), it will appear in your preferred networks. In System Preferences, you'll be able to make these changes to your preferred networks. However, if you haven't connected to a network before, you can't remove it from the list of available networks. You can also remove a network to be able to connect to it using a different password.

Steps

  1. 1
Open System Preferences. Click the Apple icon in the menu bar and click System Preferences.
  2. 2
Click Network. It's with an icon of a globe.
  3. 3
Click Wi-Fi. You'll find this menu option in the panel on the left side of the window.
  4. 4
Click Advanced. It's in the lower right corner of the window.
  5. 5
Click to select the Wi-Fi network you want your computer to forget. The network name will highlight in blue to indicate that you've selected it.
    • By default, you should be in the Wi-Fi tab, but if not, click Wi-Fi to see the list of preferred networks.
  6. 6
Click -. This minus sign button is under the "Preferred Networks" box and will remove the selected Wi-Fi network from the list, which prevents your computer from automatically connecting to this network in the future.
    • Alternatively, you can also uncheck the Auto Join box next to the Wi-Fi network, to remove the auto-join feature instead of removing the network entirely.
  7. 7
Click Ok and Apply. The changes you made will take effect immediately.[1]
