Griefing in Minecraft has been a notorious and controversial gameplay style ever since it started. The hate for it has caused servers to ban it entirely, resulting in a ban for players who refuse to stop. Nevertheless, you might want to bend the rules a little and mess around. Here is a guide on how to grief in Minecraft.

Method 1
Method 1 of 6:
General Griefing

  1. 1
Find a server list website. Ex. Minecraft Server List, Planet Minecraft.
  2. 2
Find a Server. Preferably a no-whitelist server, this way you can just go right in and start playing instead of having to wait to get to play.

  3. 3
Get a custom griefing client, if desired. This can be used to fly, speed mine, climb walls, x-ray, etc. It is very useful on servers.
  4. 4
Start destroying buildings. Blow them up, steal stuff, tear down most of it, whatever suits you.
  5. 5
Steal stuff, TNT buildings, or just mine them. Make sure not to get caught, use sneak (shift) so people can't see your name. (hold it down)

Method 3
Method 3 of 6:
Using a Lava Flood

  1. 1
Find a vein of lava. They are usually found underground, but they can be found above the surface too.
  2. 2
Stock up on buckets of lava.
  3. 3
Find a wood building. Remove the building's roof.
  4. 4
Place lava on all four corners of the house's ceiling, so the lava flows inside.
  5. 5
Replace the roof and repair anything else messed up. The owner of the house will get a little surprise when he/she opens the door! Remember, you can do this with water if you have trouble finding lava.

Method 4
Method 4 of 6:
With an Underwater Building

  1. 1
Find a proper building. This method is super easy, the only remotely difficult part is finding the proper building. If you have the time, search around underwater for an underwater house. Good signs of underwater houses are floating underwater glass, and lights from underwater.
  2. 2
Go inside the house and simply break the roof! It will be a huge pain for the owner to get all of the water out.

Method 6
Method 6 of 6:
World Edit

  1. 1
If you happen to find a server that has the World Edit plugin installed, try to find a way to get OP, or get a rank that allows World Edit.
  2. 2
Once you have World Edit, try to destroy spawn if possible, or if you can't, try to destroy as close to spawn as possible. Recommended World Edit commands to destroy it is //set air //replace (uglyblock1),(uglyblock2),(uglyblock3) //set Lava and //set bedrock

Community Q&A

  • Question
Why do people grief on Minecraft?
    Community Answer
    Community Answer
Several reasons. First, in some gamemodes like factions or server types like anarchy, griefing is allowed and a common way to fight enemy factions/players. Often there are adequate protections against it, whether that be claiming plugins or hiding your base, but it is allowed if you manage. Second, sometimes people are jerks, and griefing is a popular form of revenge. Third, some people have YouTube channels and grief for attention, and even without a channel, they love attention, even if it's infamy and hatred. Fourth, people sometimes just get bored and decide griefing is a great way to liven things up.

  • Question
How do I grief in Minecraft without lava or TNT?
    Community Answer
    Community Answer
If you can't use lava or TNT, break the blocks or destroy with creepers.
  • Question
    Will I get in trouble?
    Community Answer
    Community Answer
Someone might report you, and you could get a suspension or even banned. It may be better to not grief in the first place, you wouldn't like it if someone grieved you!
  • Question
How do I grief a village?
    Community Answer
    Community Answer
Get TNT or Lava to use. If you do not have those, then just get creepers and make sure they stay on your tail. If you lose one, you might not be able to explode one.
  • Question

Obsidian can be broken slowly. Hasten effects from a beacon, an efficiency diamond pickaxe, and 'fastbreak' cheats can speed up the process. Bedrock must be broken in creative mode, broken with commands like /setblock, or broken with glitches/exploits. And while it is possible to break bedrock in survival, it takes a while to do so.
  • Question
Can I do this on Minecraft Pocket Edition?
    Community Answer
    Community Answer
No, there is no real way to do this unless you can find a way to properly download, unzip, and place the file in the proper place on your phone just as you would do it on PC.
  • Question
How do I make sure I get a good server?
    Community Answer
    Community Answer
Look at Minecraftservers.net, or Minepurist.net for a "No rules" server.
  • Question
How do I download a grief client for Minecraft?
    Community Answer
    Community Answer
Generally developers don't make clients specifically for griefing. Fast place and auto clickers can help; so will speed hacks. Speed hacks are generally found in PvP hack clients. X-Ray is a mod on its own, but it is also in Wurst. It will help you obtain lava, water, or ores needed for griefing (redstone).
  • Question
How do I grief in Minecraft when there's griefer protection in the game?
    Community Answer
    Community Answer
Worldedit is possible for you to grief, even with Worldguard, Redprotect, etc.

Warnings

  • Be careful about getting banned; many servers have rules about griefing, and this could possibly get you banned.
  • Decide if you really want to do this. You don't want to regret it later on.
  • Always be sure that the house does not have advanced safety features like impenetrable blast walls, hidden lava traps, trick stairs, etc. These will either kill you or stop you from getting through the walls or floors. Or it might have a lockdown feature, where the house is cordoned off from the area completely, making it virtually IMPOSSIBLE to grief it.Examples are -

Turrets - These may spring up and cover the area with all types of projectiles and explosives in 360 degrees, thereby effectively grinding you to pieces. Maze - This makes it that the house goes underground and in a random location, so you'd have a tough time to find it. Switch - Bars down everything in the house, stopping you from getting in. But all this relies on an alarm. If you see ANYTHING which can start an alarm, don't break it or touch it. It might have breakers attached to activate the alarm.
