Have you ever wondered how they got that pear into that bottle of wine or brandy? Here is the way it is done.
Ingredients
- Wine, Brandy, or Vinegar
Steps
-
1Select bottles and clean thoroughly.
-
2Wrap a piece of nylon cord around the bottle about 1/3 way up from bottom.
-
3Pull the ends until they are equal in length.
-
4Secure temporarily with scotch tape
-
5Attach cord to bottle with a small amount of e-6000 or good quality silicone adhesive, placed as small globs in 3 different spots.
-
6Place bottles where the glue may dry
-
7In the spring, after the pear tree has blossomed, the blossoms have fallen off, and the fruit bud is visible, select a bud that is at or near the end of a branch that is thin enough to fit into the opening in the bottle.
-
8Prune any extra foliage along the branch enough so you can push the bud and about 6-8" of the branch into the bottle.
-
9Carefully insert the bud into the bottle.
- Use hanger wire to snugly wrap around the neck of the bottle and last part of the base of the bottle.
- connect the two wrapped end with the wire so that it does not slip.
- This would be fail-proof hanging strap for the bottle on to a branch of the tree.
-
10Secure the branch into the bottle using green florist tape, by wrapping the tape around the bottle neck and working toward the branch.
-
11Continue wrapping the branch and bottle neck until a good firm connection is made.
-
12Secure the bottle by tying the strings to a branch above the bottle.
-
13Position the bottle bottom so that it is slightly higher than the neck. This keeps rain from getting into the bottle.
-
14Every few days throughout the season check on the bottle and rotate occasionally.
-
15Reposition the bottle occasionally to allow the fruit to grow and minimize the amount of time the fruit touches the bottle in one spot.
-
16When the fruit is ripe, cut the stem and strings and remove the bottle from the tree.
-
17Remove the string and scrape off the silicone or adhesive off the bottle. Unwrap the florist tape and carefully pull the branch out of the bottle until the fruit hits the neck. Gently twist and pull on branch until fruit comes loose.
-
18You could also fashion a small hook on the end of a piece of coat hanger to assist the removal of the branch.
-
19Pour water containing vegetable wash into bottle and swish gently.
-
20Do this a couple of times an rinse with clean cool tap water.
-
21Bottle is now ready for you to add favorite beverage cap and enjoy.
