This wikiHow teaches you how to protect your Instagram account by setting up two-factor authentication on your iPhone or iPad.

Steps

  1. 1
Open Instagram on your iPhone or iPad. It’s the orange, purple, and pink camera icon that’s typically located on the home screen.
  2. 2
Tap the profile icon. It’s the outline of a head and shoulders at the bottom-right corner of the screen.
  3. 3
Tap the gear button. It’s near the top-right corner of the screen.
  4. 4
Scroll down and tap Two-factor Authentication.
  5. 5
  6. 6
Tap Turn On. Instagram will now send a 6-digit confirmation code to you via SMS (text) message.
  7. 7
Type the confirmation code. You’ll have to open the text from Instagram to find it.
  8. 8
Tap Done. It’s at the top-right corner of the screen. Two-factor authentication is now enabled. Each time you sign in on an unfamiliar device, Instagram will text you another 6-digit code that you’ll need to enter to access your account.[1]
