This tutorial will show you how to create a simple drawing of everyone's favorite car: Herbie the Love Bug!

1Start with a rough outline sketch of your Herbie (also known as a Volkswagen Beetle). Since Herbie is a 1963 Volkswagen Beetle, you can search for photos of similar cars in order to observe Herbie's basic shape.
- Use a pencil and light strokes. You will want to be able to erase the outline later.

2Use a black ink pen to draw the basic outline of the car. Include the wheel covers.
- Depending on what medium you are using, you can also use a black marker, pastel, paint, or practically any other medium.

3Continue to fill in the structural components of the car. Add such components as the wheels, headlights, windows, door, and front grill.

4Add the smaller details that will transform this ordinary car into Herbie.
- In addition to the more specific characteristics of the headlights, wheels, etc., these details include the inner portion of the car (such as the steering wheel and rear view mirror) and the iconic strips and the number "53".

5Use a cream-white to color in Herbie's "body". Use blue and red for his iconic stripes.
- Don't forget to color his headlights, grille, and other components.
- Add some shading and highlighting for additional dimension.
- If any of the pencil outline is left over, be sure to erase it.
