Jeff Sessions is the current U.S. Attorney General, as of 2018. If you're interested in contacting him, the US Department of Justice offers several options for you to choose from. You can go online to their website and type your message into a submission form, and this will be read by the correct department. You can also choose to send a letter to the U.S. Department of Justice to explain your message in writing, or call the comment line or main switchboard to talk over the phone.
Steps
Method 1
Method 1 of 2:Reaching Out Online
-
1Visit the US Department of Justice website at https://www.justice.gov/contact-us. This link will take you directly to the page that lists the contact information for the Department of Justice, including the Attorney General.[1]
-
2Click on the “Contact Us Form.” This will be a brownish-gold colored tab towards the top of the page, right under “Contact the Department.” Once you click it, you’ll be taken to the submission form.[2]
-
3Select “Messages to the Attorney General” in the message topics options. After you type in your name and email address, scroll through the list provided to choose a “general topic of your message.” Click on “Messages to the Attorney General” to ensure it’s sent to the right place.[3]
- "Messages to the Attorney General" is located near the bottom of the list.
-
4Type your message to the Department of Justice in the submission box. You have 2000 characters to use in your message. Write out your message carefully, making sure you say everything you’d like to while also being respectful.[4]
- For example, if you're angry about the Attorney General's decision to ban bump stocks, ask him how he believes this will impact the country and state your concerns in a polite way.
- You may not get a response back, but the Department of Justice says that either way your message will be read and heard.
Method 2
Method 2 of 2:Calling or Sending Mail
-
1Mail a letter to the US Department of Justice to share your message. While you can send a letter of any length, try to opt for a letter on the shorter side, or roughly 1 page. You can write the Attorney General’s name on the envelope, or simply address Jeff Sessions in the letter.[5]
- The address to the US Department of Justice is 950 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20530-0001.
- You can type or handwrite the letter.
-
2Call the department comment line if you have a shorter message. The comment line’s number is 202-353-1555. This is a better option if you have a short message to relay that doesn’t require many details or a super lengthy explanation.[6]
- The comment line most likely lets you leave a message with an automated voice.
-
3Contact the Department of Justice Main Switchboard. This number is 202-514-2000, and it will allow you to contact the Department of Justice as a whole to decide which individual department to address with your message.[7]
- You'll be transferred to individual phone lines depending on the topic and who you need to speak to.
- Be aware that you may be put on hold during your phone call.
