If you have a thought, idea, or question you'd like to share with former President Barack Obama, you might wonder if it's even possible to contact him. Luckily, there are a number of ways that you may be able to get in touch with him! Just keep in mind that even though he isn't the President anymore, he's still a very busy and popular person, so he may not be able to respond to each individual message he receives.
Steps
Method 1
Method 1 of 11:
https://barackobama.com/contact/
-
1Reach out through his official website. The contact page on Barack Obama's website is the official channel for the public to contact the former President. In fact, the Office of Barack and Michelle Obama requests that you use this form rather than sending personal mail. Fill out the form to send a personal message, to request an appearance by President Obama, or if you're a member of the press making a media inquiry.[1]
- Select "President Obama" from the drop-down menu at the top of the page (you also have the option of contacting Michelle Obama through the same form).
- Fill out the top of the form with your name, email address, phone number, and address. Then, compose your message in the text box.
- After you proof-read your message, click the blue "Get in Touch" box at the bottom of the form.
Method 2
Method 2 of 11:
https://barackobama.com/greetings/
-
1Request a greeting from President Obama. The former President will send a message to help commemorate certain special occasions. Fill out the form with the reason for the greeting, the name and address of the recipient, and your name, email address, and phone number. Include any notes about the greeting at the bottom of the form. You can request a greeting for the following occasions:[2]
- Birthday (specify adult or child)
- Condolence
- Eagle Scout Award
- Girl Scout Gold Award
- Graduation
- Military retirement
- Birth of a child
- Wedding
- Wedding anniversary
Method 3
Method 3 of 11:P.O. Box 91000, Washington, DC
-
1Send physical letters to his DC mailing address. Although President Obama requests that mail be sent through his website, he does have a physical mailing address as well. Send your note to:
Office of Barack and Michelle Obama
P.O. Box 91000
Washington, DC 20066.[3]
- Be aware that all letters and packages will be screened by security before they're sent on to the former President.[4]
Method 4
Method 4 of 11:1-773-365-9687
-
1Text President Obama's Community number. Yes, that is really a number you can use to text President Obama—but there's a catch. If you text that number, you'll be sent a prompt to sign up for the social media app Community. Once you're signed up, you'll get a text any time the former President sends an update to his followers. You can also text him directly, although he may not have time to answer everyone.[5]
- You can also sign up at https://my.community.com/barackobama.
Method 5
Method 5 of 11:
https://www.facebook.com/barackobama
-
1Leave a comment on a Facebook post. President Obama maintains an active presence on social media, including Facebook. His Facebook posts are open for public comments, so feel free to leave a note sharing your thoughts. There's no guarantee he'll respond, but there is at least a chance he'll see your comment!
- President Obama's Facebook page is set up so you can't message him through Facebook Messenger.
Method 6
Method 6 of 11:
https://twitter.com/BarackObama
-
1Tweet your message to President Obama. President Obama posts to Twitter frequently, sharing videos, pictures, and stories of his work with the public. You can't DM him on Twitter, but you can leave a reply on one of his posts, which he may see.
- The former president doesn't typically comment on or like his replies and mentions, so don't be surprised if you don't hear back from him, even if he reads your message.
Method 7
Method 7 of 11:
https://www.instagram.com/barackobama/
-
1Leave a comment on an IG photo or video. President Obama usually posts the same content to his Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram profiles. If you follow him on Insta, you'll see new posts nearly every day—and sometimes multiple times a day. That's plenty of opportunities to share your thoughts through an Instagram comment.
- Like his other accounts, President Obama does not usually reply to comments—but he may still see it!
Method 8
Method 8 of 11:Linked In: Barack Obama
-
1This one's a bit of a long shot. President Obama isn't active on LinkedIn, but he does have an account. Chances aren't great that he'll see your message, much less respond. However, he does have an account, and if you have LinkedIn Premium, you can send him a message, even if you're not connected.
Method 9
Method 9 of 11:obama.library@nara.gov
-
1Send an email to the Barack Obama Presidential Library. Emails to the presidential library probably won't get to Barack Obama himself. However, if you have a unique idea to help preserve the former President's legacy, this might be a good option.[6]
- President Obama's library will be the first of its kind—its contents will be 100% online.
- You can also call the Barack Obama Presidential Library at (847) 252-5700.
Method 10
Method 10 of 11:
https://www.obama.org/contact-us/
-
1Reach out to the Obama Foundation. The Obama Foundation works to support upcoming leaders and provide new opportunities for young people. The foundation is also responsible for developing the Barack Obama Presidential Center, which will hold physical records and artifacts from his presidency. While your message probably won't reach the president, you can use the foundation's contact page to share:
- Your personal story
- Donations
- Presidential artifacts
- Interest in interning, volunteering, or employment
- Press inquiries
